Goliath: Hero of the Great Baltimore Fire (True Stories) Reviews
Beautifully illustrated. I bought it for my 11 year old grandson but when I got it I realized that
Having grown children in the fire service and grandson that love everything about the fire department, I was intrigued with this story. It is a true story and takes place in Baltimore, MD, we live in Maryland, so that makes it even closer to our hearts. Great book for our "fire" library.
I am not a child - I am a senior adult. I have always had a special love for horses. I ordered this book after reading about the Great Baltimore Fire on a "This Day in History" post, which had a reference to this book. I love the book ! What a horse ! Children will love this book about a hero. And the illustrations are beautiful. Now I want to go to the Fire Museum of Maryland.
Wonderful story book with beautiful illustrations.
If your little persons like horses, firemen, fire history, scary adventures, buy this book! If yours is a particularly sensitive little person, you might consider starting by showing him the photos of Goliath and assure him that Goliath survived the Great Baltimore Fire.
A very good true story of a great horse. Anyone who likes horses or firemen would enjoy having this in their collection
Such a splendid assembly of history and art, reminding me how much other creatures know! Such a good message for children and adults!!
This children's book that combines historical data with story telling while holding the reader's attention and at the same time recording actual events of the Baltimore Fire in 1904. The center of attraction is a horse named "Goliath" who history records as a hero. The illustrations support the story and are done excellently. The author went to much detail to keep the story within the time frame in 1904 and the fire itself. A good educational book for children of all ages, young and old!
