Pleasant Hill Shaker Furniture (Popular Woodworking) Reviews
I have read the book through twice now and it just keeps getting better and better. I have read extensivly of the eastern settlements but knew very little about the western groups. I enjoyed seeing the differences as well as the similarities in the way of life and the furniture. The book was a nice balance of how life was day to day and the furniture they created. This is the second book I am aware of written by an experienced woodworker so the insights are of more interest than the usual picture/history book we see so many of. The other is by Chris Becksvoort, which I have equally enjoyed.
bought used.... but it was NEW! super fast delivery
This has great pictures and a good history plus plans ,good read if you are into shaker furniture and the practicality of a shaker homestead.
I just upgraded my review - in the year or so I've had this book, I find myself going back over and over to savor not just the fine depiction of Shaker furniture, but the Pleasant Hill community as well - looking forward to visiting to see it all first hand. if you're interested in the Shakers, and especially their furniture, you need this book.
This book gives a good history of the shakers in general and pleasant hill in specific. The furniture is described and photographed well enough for the amateur to easily make a reproduction or get ideas for their own designs.
Beautiful photos of wonderfully designed furniture. The drawings with the dimensions make it easier to reproduce those pieces for your own home or for sale.
I loved the book Great insight on the life of the Shakers at pleasant hill, beautiful Photos I would like to travel there some day and see it.
Great book on the Pleasant Hill Shaker community. A great addition to the line of Shaker history so that it will not be lost.
