The ever present ache of exile rises above the comforting sounds of the river, as the image of the house of the LORD in ruins breaks the peace Despite the warmth of the fire, he feels a chill He wraps his cloak around him and looks into the eager faces of his people, then closes his eyes Picture this scene Before the Bible was a book, it was flesh and blood In this book, you can travel with Sean Gladding between the lines of the Scriptures to listen in on the conversations of people wrestling with the Story of God for the first time Whether sitting around a campfire in Babylon, reclining at table in Asia Minor or huddled together by candlelight in Rome, you ll encounter a tale that is at once familiar and surprising The Story of God, the Story of Us can be read alone but is especially rich shared with a group Sean Gladding presents an account of the Bible that pays attention to its audience as well as its message He introduces you to people who may remind you of yourself or your family, friends and coworkers As much as the Bible is a story about God, it s also a story about you and all of us as we encounter God in a new way....

The Story of God, the Story of Us: Getting Lost and Found in the Bible Reviews
This book is transformative- its basically a summarization of the bible, told in second-hand narrative (i.e. the Old Testament is told by an elder of the israelites during the Babylonian Captivity, in the format of telling stories around a fire at night). It makes a lot of the very repetitive aspects much more approachable, and introduces many concepts of the bible much more clearly and links them very well. Each chapter is designed to be about 30 minutes when read aloud (heard it straight from the author's mouth). However, when I read it alone, it takes about an hour but I keep pausing to digest or reread powerful passages- and I am a rather slow reader. Apparently the audiobook version on Audible is the author reading the book, and he is originally from Britain.
A story about a story is what Gladding does in this short book. For people who do not have a great overview of the Bible this volume will introduce you to the main characters and storyline of the Bible in twelve simple, yet profound chapters. This could easily be a study with any group of people, followers of Jesus or not yet sure of God.
Excellent read. Gives a great insight into the Bible, but definitely reccomend using this just as bonus reading material. It doesn't cover everything in the Bible and is definitely made as a narrative. The Bible is translated in a way that the writer (and characters) portray it. In the end God is the one who reveals to each person what His word means. But I loved every minute and have recommended it to all of my friends! Looking forward to walking through it again in a small group discussion setting!
Very insightful, easy to read book. This book was assigned to me for a Bible interpretation class I took and it was very helpful. It helped me to see things from a different perspective.
I'm only a third of the way through this book, but really like it a lot. It makes the "big picture" of the Bible come to life. I'm taking notes in it and journaling about it, in addition to reading my NLT parallel study Bible for more understanding. I am finally "getting it!" The author writes in a very understandable way. Thank you, Sean Gladding!!!!
This is book I will give to friends! Having read this after knowing Sean for many years, I am impacted by the means by which he communicates the "meat" of the Bible and brings it to speak to our current generation of people disheartened with traditional religion. This can be given to someone with lots of Biblical knowledge, or with very little Biblical knowledge, and impact them both. I am ordering more to give to friends in recovery from drugs and alcohol, to give them a snapshot of what God has done throughout history in reaching out to the lost, discarded, marginalized and broken.
Excellent! Even though I'm familiar with the story from my Bible reading, this book brings out some details I was not as familiar with. It's also a quick way to get the story of God in a short book.
We just finished our study tonight. It was okay but a little strange.
