The Mark Hayes Vocal Solo Collection -- 10 Hymns and Gospel Songs for Solo Voice: For Concerts, Contests, Recitals, and Worship (Medium Low Voice) Reviews
I love this collection. Not a single song is passed over when I teach students from it; the arrangements as well as the original songs by Mark Hayes each provide rich melody and glorious accompaniments to songs which inspire and glorify God like nothing else. The first time I purchased this book, in both ML and MH voices, I used them for my own solo singing in churches. Now I use them in concerts and other ministry, but I teach out of this book, continually returning to it because they are simply some of the best Christian art songs in the English language, hands down.
Exactly what I was looking for. The melodies and rhythms have just the right amount of challenge for an experienced singer like me. The accompaniments are amazing! And enhance the pieces with just the right amount of finesse. So glad I bought this book.
Mark Hayes has his musical signature on most all of his work and these arrangements are no exception to that. They are nice variations on mostly familiar songs, and are more difficult for the piano accompanist than for the soloist, in my opinion. For me these books and CDs are an entertaining way to exercise the voice, much less boring than regimented vocal exercises.
Love to sing Mark Hayes' beautiful pieces and settings. This book as described, and received on time in great shape.
The songs are for medium high as expected and good for those looking for recital pieces. There are fresh arrangements of some old gospel songs which delights the ear, particularly in the piano part. For intermediate pianists, the accompaniment might be too advanced, but doable if practiced.
Wonderful collection of Mark Hayes vocal solos that I use often for church solo work for mezzo soprano vocal range.
I purchased this book to use in a college class (I am a music major). These songs are classics hymns that have been given beautiful accompaniments. However, the arrangements are a little different than what you would hear in a traditional church hymn book. The songs are still recognizable, but have been made into pieces that you could perform (rather than being very simple for the purpose of congregational worship like the original versions).
