The American Story: 100 True Tales from American History Reviews
It's a beautiful book filled with interesting stories from the American history. I liked how the author organized it by years giving the readers a perspective of what has been happening at a given point in time. I am reading it to my 8 year old and he loves listening to them. The vocabulary is sophisticated so I have to stop from time to time to explain to my son the meanings, but overall it's a great read!
Stories are not to long. Great to cover one story a day. My 5 and 9 year old enjoy the history covered inside this book.
This is a great tool to help history come alive more than the traditional textbook. We read it with our daughters (6&9) as they learn about different parts of Am. History in school and when we travel to different historical/relevant places. It gives enough information for our youngest to get the gist of and enough for our older to get a solid base on the topic to ask more insightful questions. Great find!
My kids (10 and 6) and I love this book! We read it a few chapters at a time at bedtime and are working through it a second time now. The stories are engaging and interesting and led to many interesting conversations. Also as the kids learned about historic events at school they recalled the story in the book which gave it special resonance. Wish there was series of books about world history!
This is another one of those books that, after checking it out from the library, I knew I *had* to have my own copy. My whole family loves it! We read it together, and then map out where each of the events takes place (US Geography!). The stories are short, interesting, well written, entertaining, and informative.
My kids love this book. Very informative and educational.
Keeps my 4th grader engaged and interested.
This is by far my favorite children's book, bar none. I love history and this book allows me to share my love of history with my kids. The stories are fun and eclectic (birth of the potato chip, molasses flood, pac man). Interesting for both adults and children. Each story is two or three pages with colorful illustrations. This is my go-to present. You will not be disappointed.
